So why do we need to take screenshots?
Taking a screenshot of our dicom data in the dicom viewer not only benefits the user, but for others we are sharing the image with. One of the main purposes of taking a screenshot of the dicom image file is for patient education. It is extremely common for medical experts (often a radiologist, surgeon or physician) to take screenshots when analysing a dicom image file then sharing it with the patient. Not only does this often simplify patient discussion, but allows more accessibility. For example, let’s say a physician is dissecting a dicom file and finds something unusual within the medical image. They then can proceed to take a screenshot and either forward it on to another physician or patient, or use the screenshot in patient discussion.
Another significant purpose of taking screenshots of a dicom file is for the users personal use. It is extremely common for users to create an image gallery or folder full screenshots showcasing different views of the dicom image file. For example, let’s say the user has loaded in a CT scan or MRI of a broken leg. The user can take screenshots of the different views of the break such as an axial, coronal and sagittal. Furthermore, this can also aid in our analysis or patient education where we can go through our digital image folder with our screenshots instead of altering our settings through each view. Not only will this make our analysis quicker, but more understandable.
We’ve made it easy to take screenshots inside the software, both on Windows and MacOS and save these images to a destination folder of your choice. When using the dicom viewer on windows, it is often difficult to take screenshots directly through the computer without a designated shortcut. In 3Dicom Lite, after loading a scan, users can navigate to the Settings panel in the bottom left of the software and view the ‘Capture’ settings.
This is where users can browse and select a destination folder for the screenshots taken in 3Dicom. Once this has been set, simply click on the camera icon in the main Interactive 3D space to capture whatever is currently shown in the full screen area or quickly capture specific slices in the standard 2D planes using the relevant ‘2D Cameras’ on the right hand side.
