How to Adjust Display Settings
Understanding Display Adjustments in 3DICOM Mobile
Adjusting display settings in 3DICOM Mobile lets you fine-tune how your scans appear on screen, helping you focus on the anatomical details that matter most.

How to Adjust Display Settings
3DICOM Mobile gives you several display adjustment options that help you customise how your scans appear on screen.
Instructions on how to use each of the different display settings are provided in the tabs below.
What does the Brightness adjustment do?
Brightness controls how light or dark your scan appears overall. Increasing brightness makes more detail visible in darker areas, while lowering it can reduce glare and emphasise denser structures.
The brightness slider can be set anywhere between 0 and 100. By default, it is set to 0 each time you open a scan, which represents the standard brightness level. Increasing the value makes the overall image lighter, while decreasing it makes the image darker.

Steps to get there:
What does the Contrast adjustment do?
Contrast adjusts the difference between lighter and darker areas of your scan. Higher contrast makes tissue boundaries stand out, while lower contrast softens the image for a smoother look.
The contrast slider ranges from 0 to 100 and resets to 0 each time you open a scan, representing the default contrast. Higher values increase the difference between light and dark areas, while lower values reduce it for a softer appearance.

Steps to get there:
What does the Windowing adjustment do?
Windowing fine-tunes the range of grey values displayed, allowing you to focus on specific tissues (for example, bone versus soft tissue). This adjustment can reveal details that are not as clear with brightness and contrast alone.
The windowing tool starts at a default threshold range of Lower -512, and Upper 512, each time you open a scan. Adjusting the sliders changes which grey values are displayed. Increasing the window range allows you to see more structures at once, while narrowing the range helps emphasise specific tissues such as bone or soft tissue.

What do Presets do?
Presets in 3D view apply predefined brightness, contrast, windowing, and opacity values for common viewing needs. They provide a quick way to optimise your image without adjusting each setting manually.

What does the Opacity adjustment do?
Opacity is available when viewing scans in 3D. It controls how transparent or solid the tissues appear, helping you ‘see through’ outer layers to better explore the internal structures of your scan.
The opacity slider can be set between 0 and 100 and resets to 100 each time you open a scan in 3D, meaning the image starts fully opaque.

FAQs
Find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about using touch gestures on 3DICOM Mobile below.
You can adjust brightness, contrast, and windowing across all views. In 3D view, you also have access to opacity and a number of display presets.
Brightness changes the overall lightness or darkness of the scan, while contrast adjusts the difference between light and dark areas to make structures stand out more clearly.
Windowing fine-tunes the range of grey values displayed in your scan. This helps emphasise certain tissues (for example, bone versus soft tissue) that might otherwise be hard to see.
This can happen if one or more display settings are set to extreme values.
Opacity (3D view): If the slider is set to 0, your scan will be fully transparent and may look like nothing is displayed. Increase the slider to bring the scan back into view.
Brightness: Very low brightness may make the scan appear almost black, while very high brightness can wash out details. Try resetting towards the middle of the range.
Contrast: If contrast is too high, fine details may disappear; too low, and the image may look flat. Adjust gradually until structures become clear.
Windowing: Narrow ranges may hide some structures, while wide ranges may make details harder to interpret. Adjusting windowing slowly and carefully helps emphasise the tissues you want to see.
3DICOM Mobile doesn’t yet have a built-in reset option for display settings. For now, the easiest way to return to default values is to close and reopen your scan.
Yes. Presets are available when viewing scans in 3D. They provide predefined brightness, contrast, and windowing values for common viewing needs, so you don’t have to adjust everything manually.
No. Presets are only available in 3D view. They provide predefined brightness, contrast, windowing, and opacity values so you don’t have to adjust everything manually.
Display adjustments are applied on your local device and may appear slightly different depending on screen size, resolution, and brightness settings.
Adjusting display settings in 3DICOM Mobile helps you tailor how your scans appear, so you can focus on the details that matter most. Now that you’ve learned how to use brightness, contrast, windowing, and opacity in 3D view, try combining these tools with navigation gestures or the slice tool to explore your scans even further.
