How to Open a Scan in 3DICOM

Opening a scan from Scans/Records.

Il Scansioni/Registrazioni section is where you’ll find all medical imaging files that are uploaded to your account, or shared with you directly or via a Tenant/Vault you have been granted access too.

Understanding the File Structure

📁 Paziente — The main folder containing all studies for one patient.

📁 Studio — A specific imaging session (e.g. CT Chest – 2025-09-15).

📂 Serie — A set of related images and files within a study.

Scans are located in the Serie folder.

You can navigate your records in two ways in the Scans/Records Section:

• Expandable file structure in the left panel, showing folders for Patient, Study, and Series.
• Double-click functionality in the right content area, which steps you through each folder level.

Tip: The headings above the main content area always show which level of the folder structure you currently have open.

Opening a Scan from Scans/Records using the Expandable Folder Structure

Passi per arrivarci:

1. Accedi al tuo account 3DICOM. Verrai automaticamente indirizzato alla dashboard.

2. Click ‘View scans/records’ to access the Scans/Records page.

3. Using the folder structure to the left, locate the Paziente folder relating to the scan you want to view.

4. Expand the folders using the arrows until you see the Serie folder.

5. Click the Serie folder to display its contents in the main content area on the right.

You should now see at least one scan to the right indicated by a green label .

6. On the Scansione, select the three dot icon in the actions column to open the options menu.

7. Select the viewer option from the list to open the Scansione.

The viewer options only appear if you have initiated the action from a Scan in the table.

Your scan will now open in a new window in the viewer chosen.

Opening a Scan from Scans/Records using a Double-Click method.

Passi per arrivarci:

1. Accedi al tuo account 3DICOM. Verrai automaticamente indirizzato alla dashboard.

2. On the right, under the Patients heading, double-click on the Patient record in the list that relates to the scan you want to view.

3. Double-click the Study in the list to open the Series folder.

4. Double-click the Series in the list to open it and reveal the Scan and other related files.

You should now see at least one scan to the right indicated by a green label .

5. Double-click the Scan to open it in the default viewer OR

Double-clicking to open the scan at this final step will bypass your choice of Viewer and will open the scan in the Graphical Viewer by default.

6. Select the three-dot icon in the actions column to open the options menu.

7. Select the viewer option from the list to open the Scansione.

Your scan will now open in a new window in the viewer chosen.

On Upload

Scans can also be opened immediately after upload, by choosing the option from the upload dialogue box during the upload process. See how below.

Passi per arrivarci:

1. Accedi al tuo account 3DICOM. Verrai automaticamente indirizzato alla dashboard.

2. Click the ‘Upload Scan’ button located at the top right of the interface to begin the upload process.

3. Proceed through the prompts until you reach the final Upload section.

4. Toggle on the option to open the scan immediately after upload.

If you have access to more than one Tenant, you’ll need to select the tenant location to store the uploaded scan in order to proceed.

5. Select the Viewer you want the scan to open in.

6. Click the ‘Upload’ button to finalise the process.

The upload process will now begin. Upon completion, your scan will automatically load in a new tab in the chosen viewer.
