3Dicom Pro v2.7.0 Tutorial Explained

This is a tutorial on how to use 3Dicom Viewer Pro v2.6.0. This tutorial applies to 3Dicom Lite and Surgical Versions.

Singular Launcher 21.7.0
  • To start, we will need to launch the Singular Launcher.

From the Singular Launcher, navigate to 3Dicom Viewer Lite. Make sure you have the latest version (v2.6.0) The Singular Launcher should automatically update 3Dicom Viewer Lite to the latest version.

Click ‘LAUNCH 3DICOM’ to start 3Dicom Viewer Lite.

*When you first launch 3Dicom Viewer Lite (Windows), you will receive an alert window that you need to allow 3Dicom. When you do, click ‘Allow access’

  • Once 3Dicom launches, you will be greeted with a Welcome and Disclaimer.

Click ‘Accept & Close’ once you have read the disclaimer.

You will now be greeted with a Quick Guide windows, click the right arrow to continue.

One you reached the last page, you are able to start the full tutorial on how to use the software.

Click ‘Start Tutorial’ to go through the Full Guide.

When you start the tutorial, it will guide you in how to load a scan and how to navigate throughout the software.

The first step is to load a scan. To do that, click on ‘Load Scan’

You will now be able to browse you local DICOM files. Since this is the tutorial and the first time loading a scan, we will need to import a DICOM file. To do this, click on ‘Import Dicom’.

This will open a window to locate where you will be importing a DICOM file. Navigate which folder you have your DICOM files are located, and click ‘OK’

Now that you have DICOM file imported, you will see the Patient Information, which categorises with the Patient Name and other details, such as patient ID, Birth Data, Sex, Studies, Last Study Data and Date Added.

For this tutorial, we are using a demo file, which is anonymous. If your file has all the details mentioned, it will fill the appropriate information.

You will now select the patient to move forward.

The next section has the information regarding the Study, which is categorises with the Study Date, and other information such as Study ID, Study Description, Series and Date Added.

Like what was mentioned, this is a demo so this will have anonymous information.

In the final section, the information is for the Series (Scan). Which will include the Series #, Series Description, Modality, Count and Date Added.

We will now select the scan to test the software out. Select the scan with the Series Description ‘NA’.

The scan might take a while to load. But once it is loaded, you will see a window showing how to navigate through 3Dicom Viewer.

There are three main areas in the 3Dicom Viewer Lite, this is broken up into:

  • Tool Menu
  • Interactive Zone; and,
  • View Selector & 2D Planes

Select ‘Continue’ to start the tour of the main areas.

This is the Tool Menu:

This is where you adjust the view of the scan.

Next is the Interactive Zone.

This is where you can move the scan around.

To ROTATE the scan, CLICK and DRAG the 3D model.

To ZOOM through the scan, use the SCROLL WHEEL or use UP and DOWN ARROWS.

To MOVE around the scan, HOLD SHIFT and use ARROW KEYS.

To RESET the scan’s position, press the SPACE BAR.

And finally, this is the View Selector and 2D Planes.

Exposing Your Anatomy (Changing Hounsfield Value)

When you click ‘Next’, it will automatically fix adjust. Depending on your scan, it may not show properly. You may need to adjust the sliders according to your liking to show the bones, which is asked in the next scene.

Move the model according to the right position to view the scan properly. Refer to the Interactive Zone on how to move the model.

The next section on Tool Menu is the Display Settings.

  • You can adjust the brightness, contrast and the opacity of the model. Adjust the values/levels according to what you want to view on the model.

The final section of the Tool Menu is the 3D Intersect.

You can adjust the Sagittal Plane (Top-Down), Coronal Plane (Side-to-Side) and the Axial Plane (Front-to-Back). Adjust the values/levels according to what you want to view.

We are now going to the 2D View of the Scans.

Click on the highlighted icon to put the 2D Scan into full screen.

We are able to scroll through the 2D Scan by using the SCROLL WHEEL of the MOUSE, or the slider at the bottom of the scan.

When you click ‘Next’, you will be sent to the Measure Tool from the Tool Menu.

Click on ‘Length (2D Point to Point)’

You will now be asked to CLICK and DRAG a part of the 2D Scan to measure.

Clicking ‘Next’ will show the final windows.

Click ‘Exit Tutorial’ to close the tutorial and go back to the main menu.
